Financial Aid
APSI has identified several resources for potential students to receive educational funding for tuition cost. Some of these resources include:
- Workforce Investment Act (W.I.A)
- Sallie Mae
- Wells Fargo Education Connections Loan
- Grants (American Reinvestment & Recovery Act)
- Dislocated Workers Program
- Other Unemployment Resources, Grants and ARRA Funded Organizations offering “NO COST” training
APSI is excited to inform you of special financial assistance programs offered through partnerships with ESC, JobLink Centers, One-Stop, Unemployment Offices, Wells Fargo and Sallie Mae. The federal government has also included a very informative site to assist potential students with no-income private loans is (www.opportunity.gov)
Sallie Mae Career Training Loan
- Go to www.salliemae.com/get_student_loan/find_student_loan/training_loans/career_training_loans/
- Read the Program Features and click the “Ready to Apply?” button at the top of the page.
- Get the 8 items Sallie Mae requires to make a decision on your loan. These 8 items are listed on this page.
- Click the “Start your career application” link at the bottom of the page.
- Once you are finished, click submit.
Wells Fargo Education Connection Loan Program:

- Go to https://www.wellsfargo.com/student/undergrad/education/
- Create an account by completing the online “New Account Form”. Include your Social Security Number.
- Next, click “Apply Now” button (you may also speak to a loan officer at 1-800-378-5526)
- In the section that is asking you to “select a school”, search for one of APSI’s academic partners (South Piedmont Community College, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College or Chattanooga State Technical Community College)
- If you have little or poor credit, make sure you have a co-signer with a better credit score.
- Complete the rest of the application online and submit.
- You should receive an answer immediately from Wells Fargo. The Wells Fargo check will be mailed to you directly and then you may enroll in the course.
Workforce Investment Act (W.I.A) Training funding assistance:

If you have been recently laid off, under-employed, young adult or unemployed you may qualify for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) assistance. You should:
- Vist your local Employment Security Commission (ESC), One-Stop, JobLink Center or Unemployment Office nationwide
- Ask to speak to a Career Counselor or Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Counselor regarding tuition assistance programs.
- Find out if you are eligible for WIA funding. If so then fill out the application.
- Have the following documents available to be prepared for your intake process. Failure to do so will result in delay of enrollment!
- Photocopy of Driver License or State ID with current address (Utility bill/landlord statement to confirm address may be needed)
- Social Security Card
- Birth Certificate
- Selective Service Registration Card or printout from www.sss.gov Does not apply to those born before 1960.
- Photo copy of High School Diploma/GED or High School Transcripts showing graduation.
- Copy of degree or college transcripts (whichever applies to highest level of education)
- Recent Resume
- You must have two (2) fields of training. Training must come from WIA approved providers.
Dislocated Worker Program (Training funding assistance):
- Must be actively receiving unemployment benefits, exhausted unemployment benefits in last six months, or on severance due to layoff.
- Must provide unemployment form from the unemployment office showing weekly allotments.
- Must provide letter from previous employer confirming dislocation.
- Must have worked or lived in the local county you are applying for training benefits from
Adult Program (Training funding assistance):

- Must meet federal poverty guidelines or be a recipient of federal public assistance. If not, must provide household income for the past six (6) months must be reviewed to determine if low income guidelines are met.
- If receiving federal assistance (food stamps, etc.) must provide form from DSS showing weekly allotments.
- Must be resident of the county in which you are applying for training tuition assistance
Veterans GI-Bill, VEAP or Reservist and National Guard Tuition Assistance:

- The Army has launched a “NEW” program to pay for training in high-demand civilian job markets called the AVOTEC Program. Go to this site and fill out the information. The Army will pay up to $4500.00 in tuition for certification programs. https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/education/votec_program.html.
